In an attempt to avoid overcrowding at railway stations in the city, South Western Railway has increased the price of platform tickets by a whopping five times!
With most places having opened up with safety measures and necessary curbs, the railway authorities have also decided to add to their precautionary steps. As per an announcement on Thursday, September 10, South Western Railways has increased the price of platform tickets at three of Bangalore’s major railway stations.
Hoping to discourage overcrowding at these stations, the officials have increased the price by five times, which means the platform ticket that was charged Rs. 10 earlier will now cost you Rs. 50!
The price hike has been implemented at KSR Bengaluru City (aka Majestic Railway Station), Yeshwanthpur and Bengaluru Cantonment. The official release states, “There is an increased demand from the public for platform tickets as people have come inside railway stations/platforms to drop and pick up such passengers as senior citizens, differently-abled, children and students.”
Intending to avoid crowding amidst the pandemic, this step comes in anticipation of the seven pairs of train services which are scheduled to start from Bangalore division from September 12. There are special trains which are already operating from the city. Considering the new prices will be enforced until further notice, we hope this does help avoid large crowds at these public places.
