The challenger to President Donald Trump in the ongoing Presidential election, Joe Biden has slammed Donald Trump for his recent statements on India.

On Friday, the United President Donald Trump, seeking a second term at the White House, called the air in India “Filthy”. While he defended his decision to back out of the Paris accord, a key accord that deals with climate change in the world, President Trump said,

“Look at India. It’s filthy. The air is filthy. I will not sacrifice millions of jobs… thousands of companies because of the Paris Accord. It is very unfair.”

This statement angered many Non-Resident Indians in America and also people back home. Some of them also defended Trump’s statement and agreed that India’s air is indeed filthy. However, capitalizing on the statement, challenger Joe Biden slammed Trump for his statement. He tweeted,

“President Trump called India “filthy”. It’s not how you talk about friends –  and it’s not how you solve global challenges like climate change. Kamala Harris and I deeply value our partnership-and will put respect back at the center of our foreign policy.”

Further, in his blog, Joe Biden elaborated his links with the Indian community in the United States. He wrote,

“Four years ago in November, one of the last events I hosted at the Vice President’s residence was a Diwali reception. Here I was, an Irish Catholic Vice President opening my home for a holiday traditionally observed by Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains, and that night joined by Muslims, Christians, and Indian Americans of various backgrounds representing the diversity of the diaspora. In the shadow of a devastating and dark election, we gathered together for the festival of lights and new beginnings.”

At the end of the blog, he reiterated that the India-America ties were at its best when Obama-Biden was at the office.
