The current Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday headed party MPs in a protest near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue ahead of the commencement of the Budget Session of Parliament.

Most of the party leaders held placards which read ‘Save India’, No to CAA, NRC, and shouted slogans like save democracy and save constitution. The event signaled the opposition party’s strong spirit of approaching the government over the Citizenship Amendment Bill which has created sharp divisions.

Senior Congress leaders like Motilal Vohra, Ahmed Patel, Adhir Ranjan Choudhury, AK Antony, Shashi Tharoor were present at the protest.

A strong stand against Citizen bill
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi protesting governments move from the past couple of months had tweeted a quote from Mahatma Gandhi, “ I cannot teach you violence, as I do not believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before any one, even at the cost of your life,”

It is reported that the Congress MPs will sit together in the central hall wearing black ribbons during President’s address to a joint session.
Sonia Gandhi also instructed an orientation for all Congress MPs and general secretaries for February 4 on the nuances of the National Population Register.
