Singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on Sunday evening. Inter-gang rivalry has been blamed for the killing. Here are 10 things to know about Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder.
1. Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was among 424 people whose security was withdrawn by the Punjab Police on Saturday. The state government, going against VIP culture, had scaled down his security from four armed guards to two.
2. On Sunday, Moose Wala left his house around 4:30 pm with his cousin Gurpreet Singh and neighbor Gurwinder Singh. Moose Wala was driving the Mahindra Thar SUV, according to the police.
3. While Moose Wala was driving his car, two cars came from the front and attacked him. A CCTV video has appeared that shows the two cars trailing his vehicle.
4. The singer was shot over 30 times by around eight to 10 attackers. The attackers then checked whether he was alive, police sources said this morning.
5. Six suspects have been detained. Bullets found at the spot of the killing in Punjab’s Mansa district indicate AN 94 Russian assault rifle was used in the attack. The police have also found a pistol.
6. Punjab DGP VK Bhawra said that it was an inter-gang rivalry case. Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar’s gang are involved in this, said the police.
7. Canada-based gangster Goldi Brar, a close aide of the Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder in a Facebook post last evening.
8. The police said the killing appeared to be revenge for the murder of an Akali leader, Vicky Middukhera, last year. Sidhu Moose Wala’s manager Shaganpreet had figured in the killing.
9. A huge police force remains deployed outside the Mansa district home of the singer, killed just weeks before he was to turn 29.
10. Moosewala had joined the Congress last year ahead of the Punjab assembly polls. Later, he fought on the Congress ticket from Mansa seat and was defeated by AAP’s Dr. Vijay Singla.
