Gautam Gambhir, in a tweet posted on Sunday, criticized former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi for his comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The latest incident is just another episode in the intense rivalry between these two former cricketers.
Gambhir and Afridi do not share a good rapport
Ever since their cricketing days, the two have not gotten together. In the recent years, most of their arguments has been off the field and involved only topics regarding politics.
To flip through the memory pages of this rivalry, the last major incident was in April 2019 when Shahid Afridi released his autobiography called ‘The Game changer’. Shahid had written: “Some rivalries were personal, some professional. First the curious case of Gambhir. Oh poor Gautam. He & his attitude problem. He who has no personality. He who is barely a character in the great scheme of cricket. He who has no great records just a lot of attitude.”
To this, Gautam Gambhir had replied: “Someone who doesn’t remember his age how will he remember my records! ok. Shahid Afridi let me remind you one: 2007 T20 WC final, Ind vs Pak Gambhir 75 off 54 balls vs Afridi 0 off 1 ball. Most important: We won the Cup. And yes, I’ve attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists.”
The latest episode
In a video-clip shared by ABP News, Shahid Afridi is seen criticizing PM Narendra Modi. Gambhir took to his twitter handle to slam the former Pakistani all-rounder. He tweeted:
Pak has 7 lakh force backed by 20 Cr ppl says 16 yr old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 yrs. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won't get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?

Gambhir called Shahid Afridi a joker in his tweeted, and also took a jibe by mentioning the ’16-year-old man’ phrase. Well, it needs to be seen how Afridi would respond to this tweet.
