A case has been filed against Maulana Saad and others of the Tableeghi Jamaat for arranging a religious conference at South Delhi’s Nizamuddin, which has now reportedly become the epicenter of coronavirus outbreak in India.
The case was booked under the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897, and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for violation of government directions given to the management of Markaz of Basti Nizamuddin about gatherings in huge numbers.
8000 Indians had attended the conference
Around 8000 Indians had participated in the religious conference, which has now turned into a possible hot spot of COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
Of these, as per the Delhi Government’s latest reports, as many as 441 people have already shown symptoms of the deadly virus. 824 foreigners are also said to be involved in the affairs of the meeting. However, with all these overseas individuals said to be scattered across the country, the matters have become more concerning.
800 Indonesian preachers had attended the conference on a tourist VISA
It has been reported that around 800 preachers from Indonesia had attended the conference on a Tourist VISA. The Home Ministry has also blacklisted these candidates for violation of the VISA rules.
Cases in many states linked to the conference
While 50% of the cases in Telangana have already been traced back to this event, around 45 cases in Tamil Nadu also seem to be linked to this gathering. In Karnataka, around 45 people had attended the conference and the State Government is already working on tracing these individuals and placing them in quarantine.
