After a religious meet was held in the Nizamuddin Area in Delhi, many have started showing symptoms of COVID-19. Subsequently, the entire area has been cordoned off by the Delhi Police today.
Cases rise in India
As per the latest data, the number of cases in the country has touched the 1000 mark. The death toll currently stands at 29. The government today also confirmed that it has no plans of extending the 21-day lock-down after April 15th.
Religious meet at Nizamuddin
Despite the government’s strict instructions to avoid gatherings, the religious meet at Nizamuddin in Delhi was held. Also, without the required permission from the concerned, around 200 people gathered at the event.
Effect – a number of attendees have started displaying symptoms of the deadly virus, thereby sending the entire neighborhood and the authorities into a tizzy.
Dr Mohd. Shoaib, spokesperson of the Nizamuddin Markaz said:
“Yesterday, we provided a list of names to Delhi Administration, who had any health issue, including cold and fever. Some of them have been admitted to the hospital on the basis of age/travel history. We don’t have any confirmed Coronavirus case till now.“
Following the reports, it is said that a few of the officials from the Delhi Health Department have stationed themselves at the location.
Notice served to the concerned authorities at Nizamuddin Markaz
A police official said:
“After we learned that such an event was organized, we served notice to them for violating prohibitory orders and restrictions imposed owing to lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.”
