In the latest developments over the Nirbhaya case, the Supreme Court has dismissed a curative plea of convict Pawan Gupta. He was the last death row convict in the case to move the top court with his curative plea, all the culprits are expected to be hanged on 3rd March.

The petition was heard by 5 bench judges; justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra, R F Nariman, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan headed by Justice Ramana.
The fourth convict, Pawan Kumar Gupta, against whom the death warrant has been announced for hanging on March 3 along with the three other convicted prisoners, maintained to seek a change of sentence to life imprisonment.
However, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the curative plea filed by Pawan Kumar, challenging the May 2017 verdict which confirmed his conviction and death sentence.

The 25-year-old registered the restorative plea through lawyer A P Singh attempting to place out apex court’s earlier decisions on appeals and review petitions in the same. The top court has already refused the curative petitions of the remaining three convicts.
A fresh death warrant had been issued for the four convicts — Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, and Mukesh Singh — on February 17 setting the time of their execution at 6 am on March 3 at Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
The four were convicted in the cruel gang rape and killing of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on the horrific night of December 16, 2012, in Delhi. The woman had taken her last breath at a Singapore hospital a few days later.
