‘Nayanthara was offered ‘favors’ in exchange for a role in Films’; Dark side of Tamil Cinema exposed

Recently, she exposed the ugly truth of the casting couch in the South film industry. Nayanthara revealed how she was offered a pivotal role in return for a ‘favor’. She said that she ‘boldly’ rejected the offer, as she had faith that her talent would set her as one of the leading actresses later. She isn’t the first to address the topic of the casting couch in the South industries, as Anushka Shetty had also spoken about in 2020.

“There is so much that I have learned, so much that I have gone through, but it is all been nice. Whatever mistakes I have made, the good and bad phases (I have been through), everything is good now. It is all a learning experience. It is not easy to be in the industry for 18-19 years, but the audience and God have been kind to me. I feel blessed. I don’t know how to put the whole thing together (in words),” she told the PTI.

Life as an actress

She was the only South Indian female actor to have made it to the Forbes India Celebrity 100 2018 list, with her total earnings credited at Rs 15.17 crores. She is currently committed to half a dozen of projects and is also involved in distributing/producing films with her husband Vignesh Shivan.

“If you are sincere to your craft, if you do your work well, it works. The audience connects with you, they fall in love with you, they celebrate you, which becomes the biggest joy of life,” she added.

The actor made her film debut with Malayalam film Manassinakkare in 2003. She is known for her performances in films such as Sri Rama Rajyam, Chandramukhi, Ghajini, Raja Rani, Aramm, Iru Mugan, and Netrikann. Currently, she is gearing up for her Bollywood debut with Jawan which is directed by Atlee Kumar. The movie also stars Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, and Sunil Grover.
