Modi Government today announced the portfolios of 58 ministers as long waiting for suspense ends. The 15th Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took oath in front a crowd of over 8,000 high-profile guests in the majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan. The new Council of Ministers of 58 ministers also took oath along with the Prime Minister in front of the President of India.
There was a lot of speculations among every political geek as who should be given what charges. Amongst the most cabinet post which was talked about was the finance, defense, external affairs, and home ministry.
Former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to take new responsibility as she has been appointed as the new finance minister of India. Sitharaman becomes the first ever female Finance minister of India after Indra Gandhi, with former home minister Rajnath Singh getting the defense portfolio in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new Cabinet.
Nirmala Sitharaman will also hold the corporate affairs ministry, which administers various laws regulating corporate behavior.
Amit Shah will be the new home minister of India who was also a home minister in Modis’s Government in Gujarat.
Former foreign secretary S Jaishankar will helm the Ministry of External Affairs, a press statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
Former textile minister Smriti Irani who defeated Congress president Rahul Gandhi is the new Women and Child Development Minister.
Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Piyush Goyal retain the portfolios they held in the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) first term in office.
