criticising his party’s workings and how election after election has fared for Congress. After the huge letdown in Bihar where Congress brought down the performance of Mahagathbandhan, costing its shot to topple the NDA government, Kapil Sibal has said in an interview that there is still no introspection in the party.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Kapil Sibal has come down heavily on the Congress leadership, saying there has been no word from the party on its abysmal performance in the Bihar assembly election in which Congress’s seat tally went down further compared to the 2015 election.
In the scathing interview, Kapil Sibal has said, “We are yet to hear from the Congress party their views on our recent performance in Bihar and in the by-elections. Maybe they think all is well and that it should be business as usual.”
Talking about how Congress has been on a downward spiral since the 2014 Lok Sabha election and has consistently worsened its performance, Kapil Sibal said there is an urgent need for introspection for the party’s leadership.
“If for six years the Congress has not introspected what hope do we have for introspection now? We know what is wrong with Congress. Organisationally, we know what is wrong. I think we have all the answers. The Congress party itself knows all the answers. But they are not willing to recognise those answers,” said Congress leader Kapil Sibal.
Kapil Sibal, who was one of the 23 party veterans who wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi, criticising the functioning of the party, has also said that the party has failed to project itself as an “effective alternative” and not just Bihar, people across India do not consider the Congress as one.
“The people of the country, not just in Bihar but wherever by-elections were held, obviously don’t consider the Congress to be an effective alternative. So, the writing is on the wall,” said Kapil Sibal.
Sibal further added, “Since there has been no dialogue and there seems to be no effort for a dialogue by the leadership and since there is no forum to express my views, I am constrained to express them publicly.”
