The Government of Karnataka has announced certain relaxations on the lockdown. This would come into effect from midnight on 23rd April.
The second effort by the State to enforce relaxations
As per Modiji’s speech, India will be under lockdown till May 3rd. The PM had also announced that in the non-hotspot areas, based on the trend of the cases, certain relaxations would be announced on April 20th.
In line with this, GoK had announced certain relaxations. However, on April 19th, the Government took back all its orders, thereby ensuring the second phase of lockdown goes on uninterrupted.
However, the latest developments reveal that BSY and his team have devised on a set of relaxations, which will come into effect from midnight.
The new relaxations
The Government’s latest decision seems to be a direct result of the cash-crunch it is facing. Relaxations have been made with the construction of public infrastructures such as roads, irrigation, and metro rail. Also, information technology companies and a few other sectors have been allowed to work with minimal staff.
The latest order allows construction under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to help daily wage laborers in rural areas. Outside corporation limits too, construction activities have been allowed.
The government has also relaxed restrictions for plumbers, electricians, IT repairs, motor mechanics, and carpenters in local areas, although all of this has been permitted only in non-containment zones.
The order also read:
“IT and IT-enabled services with essential minimum staff only. Rest to work from home.“
The government has further advised all these activities to be done with compliance to social-distancing norms and lockdown regulations.
