Filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty’s latest film ‘Kantara’ collected Rs 200 crore both in India and overseas, becoming the third highest-grossing Kannada film of all time.
Kantara breaks new record
Hombale Film’s Kantara is shattering one record after another. This time, Kantara has surpassed Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 to become the most-viewed film in Karnataka. This is incredible considering the mammoth reception that Kantara has received in the state. However, KGF: Chapter 2 remains to be the highest-grossing film in Karnataka. Kantara has been in the news ever since it hit the theatres on September 30.
As per the trade tracker Sacnilk, Kantara had grossed Rs 211.5 crore worldwide. This includes a gross of Rs 196.95 crore from India alone. The film’s Hindi dubbed version has earned Rs 24 crore and the Telugu one just under Rs 23 crore in just over ten days of release. This figure is now only behind KGF: Chapter 2 ( Rs 1207 crore) and KGF: Chapter 1 ( Rs 250 crore) in the list of highest-grossing Kannada films of all time. What’s noteworthy is that Kantara is still doing well at the box office. On October 23, its 25th day, it earned over Rs 8 crore nett across India in all languages. Going by this, it may just move past KGF 1 into second place by the end of its run, reported Hindustan Times.
It has, however, beaten both the KGF films in one aspect. A separate Sacnilk report states that the film is now the most-watched Kannada film of all time. Even as KGF: Chapter 2 earned more money in the state, Kantara has sold more tickets. As of October 24, Kantara has sold 77 lakh tickets in Karnataka alone, as compared to 75 lakh and 72 lakh for KGF 2 and KGF 1 respectively. Trade analysts are predicting the film may end up seeing over a crore footfalls in Karnataka alone.
The official Twitter handle of Hombale Films announced that KGF: Chapter 2 is the most viewed film in Karnataka. Their post read, “#Kantara becomes our most viewed film in Karnataka among all the movies produced by #Hombalefilms. We are enamored by your support (sic).”

Highest-grossing Indian films
Kantara is also one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year. It currently sits at the eighth spot in the list, behind only KGF 2, RRR, Ponniyin Selvan I, Brahmastra, Vikram, The Kashmir Files, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and ahead of Gangubai Kathiawadi and Valimai.
Meanwhile, Kantara is an action thriller film by Kannada actor Rishab Shetty. Apart from acting, he also directed and acted in Kantara. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films, the film features Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty in key roles. Cinematographer Arvind S Kashyap, editors KM Prakash and Pratheek Shetty, and composer Ajaneesh Loknath are part of the crew.
