It’s Been A Month Since Bengaluru Reported It’s First COVID-19 Case

On April 9th, Bengaluru recorded 30 days since the first positive case of COVID-19 was detected in the city. For 30 days, while the city has seen close to 50 cases, the state has witnessed around 170 cases of the deadly virus.

First positive case of COVID-19 on March 9th

On March 9th, the State Department of Health and Family Welfare announced that a 46-year-old techie had tested positive for COVID-19. The same day, the government shut all the colleges and schools in the city and started to impose the restrictions.

The first case had a travel history to New York, and his case came to light when a mail was sent to the teachers of his daughter’s school regarding the same. The state government further said that the patient was being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD). 

On March 11th, the techie’s wife and 13-year-old daughter also tested positive for the virus. On March 27th, all three were discharged, after successfully recovering from the infection.

The government of Karnataka did not waste much time in responding to the situation. They quickly managed to trace all the 2000-odd primary and secondary contacts of Case-1, while also passing strict regulations and instructions to the other citizens of the state.

Although, in the beginning, Karnataka was one of the most-affected states in the country with the third-highest number of cases, the curve has really flattened in the state, with Karnataka well below many states in the total number of positive cases now.
