The BJP-led government in Haryana has ordered a probe into assets owned by the Gandhi-Nehru family in the state. Haryana chief secretary Keshni Anand Arora has asked Haryana urban local bodies department to investigate the assets linked to the Gandhi family.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had formed a panel to probe three trusts operated by the Gandhi family — Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust, and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
Now the Haryana government has ordered a probe into the assets acquired by the Gandhi family between 2004 and 2014 when the Bhupendra Singh Hooda-led Congress government was in power in Haryana.
Sources say that Haryana chief secretary Keshni Anand Arora has sent three communications to the additional chief secretaries besides asking the Urban Local Bodies Department to list the properties and other assets owned by the Nehru-Gandhi family.
The probe is currently on. Sources say another plot allotted to Associated Journals Limited in Gurugram is also under the scanner.
The action by the Haryana government comes after the government received a communication from Union government regarding the foreign contributions received by the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust besides
Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust and the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
ED has already attached a controversial plot that was allotted to the AJL in Panchkula at throwaway prices.
Former Haryana CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda had allotted this plot on 23-year-old rates to AJL within six months after he became chief minister in 2005. Bhupendra Singh Hooda had, however, denied the allegations and claimed that no rules were violated and the BJP-led union government was indulging in witch-hunting.
