FIR Filed Against Baba Ramdev, Two Associates For Misleading On COVID Cure Drug

A First Investigation Report has been filed against Patanjali’s Baba Ramdev and his two associates for making misleading claims about the cure for COVID-19.

A couple of days back, Baba Ramdev and his company Patanjali held an event to launch their newly developed drug Coronil which they claimed to cure the novel coronavirus disease. There were reports everywhere on social media and on television applauding the efforts of the Patanjali company. However, that didn’t last long. The top medical bodies of the country refused to accept the claims. The AYUSH ministry too issued a statement asking the company to not advertise before getting approval from the ministry.

As per a report in TNN, an FIR has been filed against Baba Ramdev, his two associates, and two officials of the National Institute of Medical Sciences where the Patanjali Research Institute conducted its clinical trials of their drug. The station house officer of Jyoti Nagar police station, Sudhir Kumar said,

“The FIR filed by advocate Balbir Jakhar on Friday has named Baba Ramdev, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna, Patanjali scientists Anurag Varshney, NIMS chairman Balbir Singh Tomar, and NIMS director Anurag Tomar. The complainant has alleged that they have misled people by claiming that they have found a cure for COVID-19 in their formulation Coronil.”

Rajasthan Government Questions NIMS

The National Institute of Medical Sciences had claimed on Friday that a scientific study was carried out by their team on behalf of Patanjali Research Institute which is located in Haridwar. The study was to find out the impact of the ayurvedic traditional treatment on the novel coronavirus disease. Post the study, the Institute went onto claim that they have found the first ayurvedic cure for COVID-19 called Coronil. They said that this would work for mild and asymptomatic patients. The National Institute also claimed that it had shown a 100 percent results by curing all the patients who were given the drug.

Just after the launch of the drug in a mega event, the Rajasthan government contacted the National Institute of Medical Sciences asking them why the state government was not informed about the study. The COVID-19 patients who were sent to the clinical trial were sent by the government. The Institute was supposed to submit a reply by Saturday but it hasn’t.
