Prajwal Revanna from Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) has won the prestigious Hassan seat in this year’s Lok Sabha elections. The 29-year-old politician defeated BJP’s A. Manju with a massive margin of 1,41,324 votes.

The newly elected LS member has now offered to resign from the Hassan parliamentary seat. Prajawal wants his grandfather who is also the supremo of the party, H.D. Deve Gowda to get re-elected from Hassan.

While talking to media the young politician said, “As my grandfather is the founder and builder of the JD-S, I want to resign and get him re-elected from the Hassan seat through a by-election.”

Prajwal Revanna Is The Only JD-S Winner

The grandson is the only candidate from the JD-S party to have won the elections from the Southern state out of the 7 seats it contested in alliance with the Congress. That makes the achievement of Revanna really creditable who propelled ahead whereas the experienced biggies from the party fell behind.

It should be noted that the 87-year-old Deve Gowda purposely gave the Hassan seat to Prajwal Revanna and opted to contest from the neighboring Tumkur. He wanted Prajwal to make a winning start as he was debuting in politics with this attempt.

Unfortunately, Deve Gowda, the former prime minister of India lost by a very narrow margin of 13,339 to G.S. Basavaraju of BJP.

The spokesman of JD-S Ramesh Babu told media that the party supremo will decide whether he should accept the resignation of Prajwal Revanna or not. Babu said, “As it was the party’s high command which gave the ticket for Prajwal to contest from Hassan, it will discuss the issue and decide if he should resign because he got elected on Thursday and is yet to take oath as a Lok Sabha member.”

Loss And Gain-All In Gowda Family

In the unexplainable Modi wave, BJP won 25 out of the 27 seats it contested in the recently concluded 23rd LS elections for 28 seats in the state of Karnataka. Remaining three seats were won each by JD-S, an Independent, and the Congress.

The independent seat was contested by film actress Sumalatha Ambareesh, the wife of the late actor Ambareesh and she was backed by BJP. She contested from Mandya and defeated Nikhil Kumaraswamy. She defeated the film actor and debutant Nikhil by a huge margin of 1,25,876 votes.

28-year-old Nikhil is the son of chief minister of Karnataka H. D. Kumaraswamy and grandson of Deve Gowda. Prajwal Revanna is the son of Public Works Department Minister H.D. Revanna who is also the elder son of Deve Gowda.

So all the loss and win was in the Gowda family with one grandson winning whereas one losing on his debut. The party supremo is expected to conduct a meeting soon to analyze the reasons for the loss in the elections.
