Team India is all set to change its OPPO brand name and wear a new sponsor logo after it completes the West Indies Tour. From September onwards, sponsorer Chinese mobile-maker Oppo will be replaced by Byju’s which is a Bengaluru-based educational technology and online tutorial firm. BCCI will continue to receive the same amount from Byju’s and will be at no loss for the entire duration of the deal.
India will have a new sponsor for its Blue Jersey
On September 15, South Africa will tour India and at that time, Men in Blue will be having Byju’s written on its Jersey. The Bengaluru based educational tutorial company will hold the rights for the sponsorship till 2022. However, the OPPO officials have decided to step away from its ongoing sponsorship because it finds the value acquired earlier (2017) to be higher to remain the official sponsor.
Oppo will be handing over the sponsorship rights to Byju’s
Oppo steps down
The Chinese based mobile company had earlier paid Rs 1.079 Cr for the rights to be on Jersey in 2017. They were paying BCCI Rs 4.61 Cr per bilateral matches and Rs 1.56 Cr for an ICC event match. But it looks that OPPO has denied the continuation of sponsorship to team India as they now find the price to be too high and unsustainable. Therefore, Oppo will be handing over the sponsorship rights to Byju’s.
In the current scenario, the BCCI will continue to receive the same amount from Byju’s and will be at no loss for the entire duration of the deal which runs till March 31, 2022. “Basically, Oppo has reassigned the rights to Byju’s and will pay it a minor amount to help make full payment. BCCI will receive the same amount from BYJU’s till 2022 and will not incur any loss,” BCCI officials.
