Bengaluru, which was a delayer in grabbing a Smart City slot can now look forward to world-class roads and footpaths in the Central Business District. After a break of three-years since the city was listed under the Smart City project, Bengaluru will witness “Smart Roads” at 20 different locations. Slacking of the work, it looks like the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike issued work orders recently.
The 20 selected roads located within the central business district (CBD) will provide motorists and pedestrians with advanced scientific facilities including smart signaling, light-controlled crossing for pedestrians, digital information boards to, smart dustbins, smart parking systems, solar charging ports, and many other facilities.
The civic body had floated tenders for the project worth of Rs 230 crore during November 2018 and it seems it has finally found the bidders by now.
Civil Body finally finds a bidder
BBMP wanted to take up the comprehensive development of these roads in Bengaluru as per TenderSure guidelines, upgrading the chosen stretches to feature well-planned layouts and access.
A senior engineer attached to the Smart City Project at BBMP said, “The work on these roads will begin in 15 days, soon after the board meeting of the Smart City Project cell which is scheduled to be held on May 21. The work will be completed in about 15 months.”
In the initial stage, the BBMP is finalizing the bidder to take up several other roads under the same project in the second phase. As many as 16 roads will be part of Phase-2 at a cost of about Rs 208 crore under six packages.
The civic body will also take up work of laying cobblestones along Commercial Street between Jumma Masjid junction and Kamaraj Road junction at a cost of Rs 8 crore to make it completely a pedestrian zone.
