In a creative initiative that is sure to help the farming community and also let the citizens have their dose of healthy fruit at their doorstep amidst the lockdown, ‘Mobile Fruit Mela’ has been organized over the weekend in the Garden City. Around 200 Fruit Trucks, carrying tonnes of fruits will tour all the 198 wards of the city on April 25th and April 26th.
Pineapples & Grapes to dominate in the ‘Mobile Fruit Mela’
The ‘Mobile Fruit Mela’ over the weekend will comprise of 400 tonnes of pineapple from Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga, grapes from Kolar and Chikkaballapur, and watermelon and musk melon from various other districts.
Around 200 Trucks, each carrying 2 tonnes of fruits will travel around the city of Bengaluru this weekend. The move is said to be a boon for the farmers, who have been struggling to sell their produce amidst the lockdown.
A Vande Bharatam Foundation and Hopcoms Initiative
The ‘Mobile Fruit Mela’ has been organized by the Vande Bharatam Foundation in association with Hopcoms. A slogan has also been coined for the initiative, called ‘One fruit a day keeps Corona away’, in which the organizers are requesting each house to purchase at least one kilogram of fruit this weekend.
Lokesh BH, the founder of the foundation, said: “In Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga, there are about 5,000 tonnes of pineapples waiting to be marketed. We also have hundreds of tonnes of watermelons and musk melons from several districts and grapes from Chikkaballapur, Kolar, and Vijayapura.”
The prices of the fruits will be decided beforehand. Regarding the same, he said: “The prices of the fruits will be worked out and published well in advance, keeping in mind the transportation cost incurred by the farmers.” The foundation also ensured that all the norms pertaining to the lockdown and social distancing will be followed during the entire process.
