BBMP seals Manyata Tech Park for non-payment of taxes

If you are aware, Manyata Tech Park is one of the largest tech parks in India. It is spread across an area of 300 acres and is home to offices of leading companies like Phillips, IBM, Rolls Royce, and so on. The tech park has now been sealed by the BBMP due to the nonpayment of dues.

The issue 

Here are about 150,000 employees work but now it has been sealed as the owners have been defaulting their payment of property tax. The amount due is about Rs. 70 lakh rupees. With the warrant issued by the authorities, the gates of the tech park were sealed by the BBMP.

“The owners of the tech park have failed to pay a pending amount of 70 lakhs as property tax, we had issued warnings earlier. When we recently completed the process of revision of tax, this issue of non-payment was revealed, we have issued a warrant & sealed the gates,” BBMP joint commissioner, Poornima said

Going back to 2016, the tech park faced the same issue due to the nonpayment of taxes.The BBMP had arrived with trucks to seize furniture from offices inside the tech park for non-payment of differential taxes.

The Royal Grand convention center and Reva University have witnessed the same issue due to the same problem.
“Embassy and its special purpose vehicles, including Manyata Promoters Private Limited, have always acted and continue to act in accordance with the provisions of applicable law and regulations. There are multiple proceedings filed by Manyata Promoters Private Limited against the BBMP in connection with disputes over property tax which are currently sub-judice before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka and we await the final orders in these proceedings. As the matters are sub-judice, we are not in a position to comment further,” the Embassy spokesperson added.
