As morning walkers return to parks, Bengaluru slowly breathes normalcy

Almost two months after it was shut, the iconic Cubbon Park in Bengaluru opened for citizens on Tuesday after the state government passed the relaxation on Parks. Various other parks in Bengaluru also came alive on Tuesday.

As the park returned to normalcy, it did look different. People were sporting colorful masks and discussed the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country. The security personnel screened people in the entry gates.

Manjunath PB, the 26-year-old resident of Bengaluru who has been coming for morning walks, looked for opportunities to sneak into Cubbon Park but the barricades and the police security amidst the lockdown crushed his chances. On Tuesday, he could finally step into the liveliest place in the city.

A senior citizen Kumkum Malhotra who was refused to take her three dogs into the park during lockdown looked happy and relieved she could do it now. She was one of the few people who was let into the park amidst the lockdown to feed the stray dogs.

The Morning walkers lined up outside the other iconic venue of Bengaluru, Lalbagh botanical gardens. The situation was no different there.

Bengaluru breathes normalcy

On Monday, the BS Yediyurappa led government announced several relaxations in the fourth phase of the lockdown in an aim to give relief to the people and as well as boost economic activities. As the BMTC buses resumed operations, it provided relief to thousands who depend on the transport service to commute to work. Many businesses and stores have been opened taking necessary precautions. The much talked about the traffic in the city was seen after two months.

The inter-district movement has also been resumed although the government urged people to stay indoors as much as possible to help them contain the spread of the virus. The Information Technology companies who form a major part of the Bengaluru lifestyle have asked their employees to continue work from home. The work from home culture is slowly becoming a part of the city’s culture.

With the measures in place, the city of Bengaluru is slowly returning to normalcy after fighting a two-month lockdown against the COVID-19 pandemic.
