Pakistan won’t play ‘World Cup’ in India, Demands a Different Venue

Pakistan will not come to India for World Cup and they want their matches to be hosted by Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, as per a report in ANI.

Pakistan to Quit World Cup?

After BCCI decided to play their matches in the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue, while the rest of the tournament was going to be held in Pakistan, there were calls by several former players and members of the PCB to boycott the ODI World Cup that is supposed to held in October-November this year in India. This is the first time after several years that India alone would be hosting the tournament.

However, now it looks like the tensions have indeed spilled into the plans of the ODI World Cup, as according to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Pakistan’s matches of the ODI World Cup 2023 are all set to be held in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, while the rest of the tournament will take place in India.

A PCB source told ANI, “Yes we are thinking that we will not travel to India for World Cup matches if BCCI didn’t send their team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. We want Sri Lanka or Bangladesh to host our matches, we want to play there not in India.”

India not playing in Pakistan

This news comes in after a few days back report came through a source that India will play their Asia Cup matches at a neutral venue and will not go to Pakistan. If India reached the final with Pakistan then it will also take part at a neutral venue.

“The proposal to play India games at a neutral venue (outside Pakistan) has been proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. They haven’t informed the BCCI about which the neutral venue will be. The ACC hasn’t taken any decision on it. It will be discussed during the next meeting. There are logistics and financial implications too. At the same time we don’t know whether the official broadcaster will agree to this move because they will need another crew in another country,” an official said in a recently conducted Asian Cricket Council meeting.

Pakistan last toured India for a bilateral series in 2013, and the two have not met in any bilateral series since then due to political uncertainties between the two countries. India and Pakistan only face each other in ICC and ACC tournaments now. The arch-rivals last faced off in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, where Rohit Sharma’s side defeated the Men in Green by 5 wickets courtesy of a mind-blowing 82-run knock by Virat Kohli.
