Kannada actor Upendra Rao, currently on a promotional tour for his recent release Kabzaa, opened up on the possibility of directing superstar Rajinikanth one day.
Rajini’s love for Upendra’s films
In 2010, Upendra’s favorite actor Rajinikanth was delighted and personally requested the producer to hold a screening of Upendra’s directional film Super. After watching the Kannada film Super, Rajinikanth had said if he ever gets a chance and an outstanding script, he’d like to do a Kannada film in the future under his direction.
Recently, during an interview for the promotion of Kabzaa, Upendra reacted to the same saying, “everybody in this industry wants to work with Rajini sir, it is like a dream.”
Working with Rajinikanth
“The statement itself is enough for me,” he told Pinkvilla. When further asked if he had any thoughts of making something after Rajinikanth expressed his wish to work with him, Upendra replied, “nowadays I hardly direct films, like once in 5 years because am busy with my acting career. I should get some weird ideas, otherwise, I don’t get that zeal to direct. I’m not doing one film called UI and it is almost in the finishing stage.”
For the unversed, on 3 June 2022, 7 years after Uppi 2, Upendra announced his next directorial, UI. Also, not many know, but in IMDb’s list of ‘Best 50 Directors of the World’, Upendra holds the 17th position.
The acre filmmaker made his directorial debut with Tharle Nan Maga in 1992 and directed several films like Shhh!, Om, Operation Antha, A, Swasthik, and others. The director successfully transitioned into an actor with his own directorial A in 1998. His latest release as an actor is titled Kabzaa, which he led alongside Kiccha Sudeep.
Helmed by R. Chandru, the film is currently in theaters and stars Upendra as the protagonist, who enters the underworld due to inevitable circumstances. It is released in 5 languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, and Hindi on March 17, 2023.
