Chetan Sharma’s second term as chairman of the national selection committee has ended in just 40 days. The former cricketer was forced to resign three days after a TV sting showed him talking about India team players and selection issues that have raked up a controversy.

Chetan Sharma has resigned as the chief selector of the Indian cricket team. The decision comes after a sting operation by a television channel went viral in which he was seen making some shocking disclosures.
“Chetan Sharma’s resignation has been accepted,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed.
In a sting operation by Zee News, which was aired on Tuesday, February 14, Sharma, the former India pacer made some bizarre comments about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, former Indian captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, and several other Indian players.

He was also heard saying that Indian players were taking injections to stay fit. Sharma revealed that Hardik Pandya, who has been captaining India in the T20Is since the T20 World Cup, was a frequent visitor at his house. Further, he also claimed that there was an ego tussle between former captain Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

These comments in particular haven’t gone down well with the players, who felt it would be difficult ‘to set communication’ with Sharma again.
The 57-year-old had been reinstated as chief selector in January this year after the BCCI had sacked the entire panel in November 2022 in the wake of India’s exit in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup. India’s selection panel now includes Salil Ankola, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, and S Sharath. The BCCI is likely to appoint a new chairman of the selection committee soon.
