Made on a reported budget of Rs 16 crore, Rishab Shetty doesn’t agree with those who believe his latest Kannada blockbuster Kantara was a “low-budget” movie.
Is Kantara a “low-budget” movie?
Rishab Shetty, who wrote, directed, and starred in Kantara, doesn’t agree with those who think his latest Kannada blockbuster film was a “low-budget” movie. Kantara was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 16 crore and went on to collect more than Rs 400 crore at the box office in all languages. The film has been declared one of the most successful films of the year.
However, speaking about the film’s budget, Rishab Shetty in an interview said that for him, Kantara is a big-budget film. “My last film was just 10 percent of Kantara’s budget. So compared to that, Kantara is definitely a big-budget film for me,” he was quoted as saying by Track Tollywood.
The film, which was released on September 30, 2022, has almost reached its closing worldwide collections. Written, directed, and starred by Rishab Shetty, the film was also released in Hindi, two weeks later and has so far managed to collect over Rs 460 at the Indian box office.
Doubled budget
Kantara initially had a lesser budget, but it was almost doubled later. The 39-year-old explains why it was a big-budget film for him and not others.
“Not just double, the budget was more than that. I discussed this thing with my wife. I told her how happy I was that I am doing a big-budget movie. After my film became Pan-India, people were discussing that it was a low-budget film that witnessed huge success. And I again joked about this thing to my wife and said how wrong they were,” he says.
