According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the last time the month of November saw the mercury drop so low in Bengaluru was on November 21, 2012, when the temperature was recorded at 13.3 degrees Celsius.
Coldest November
India’s IT capital woke up to a cold morning with the weather agency recording a minimum temperature of 13.3 degrees Celsius, the lowest reported in November in a decade.
Bengaluru is very likely to receive spells of rain from Tuesday. Light showers are expected to continue till November 24 and the sky will remain cloudy, the IMD reported. The minimum temperature will settle around 15-19 degrees Celsius and the maximum will be around 25-26 degree Celsius these days, the weather department said in its latest forecast.
According to experts, the cloud formation and rain chances are mainly due to the latest Low-Pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The Low Pressure is changing into a depression and will move towards the Tamil Nadu coast and South Andhra in the coming hours and it will have its effects over different states in south India.
Rain falls prediction
In the past few weeks, many areas of the city saw light rains due to an earlier Low-Pressure formation in the southeast Bay of Bengal. Since then the city has been witnessing a cold temperature, which was often 2-4 notches below the season’s average. The minimum temperature measured in the past 24 hours was 13.3, which was four points below the average.
It is now predicted that South India will receive heavy to very heavy rains in the coming days. As per the latest update, rainfall is likely to commence soon in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha as the Low-Pressure formation concentrated into a depression on Sunday. The depression is very likely to maintain its intensity and move west-northwestwards slowly in the next 48 hours, a Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai said.
“The depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwestward with a speed of 6 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 600 km east of Karaikal and 630 km southeast of Chennai. It is very likely to maintain its intensity of depression and move slowly west-northwestwards towards north Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours,” said the bulletin.
