Since the beginning, Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been breaking records. Having comfortably crossed the Rs 200 crore mark by its second week, the film can be declared an unexpected success, considering it was made on a fairly Rs 25 crores budget. The movie also witnessed much criticism as people asked the movie director to donate all the collections to the Kashmiri Hindus.
Donating from movie’s revenue
The Kashmir Files follows the story of Kashmiri Pandits who experienced dreadfulness that resulted in their mass exodus from the Valley in the 1990s.
While the film brings a lot of uncomfortable discussions for the public, from allegations of hiding the reality, to torching Islamophobia, it has also raised the matter of helping the Kashmiri Pandits who still suffer from the brutality faced by the previous generations.
With the box-office success of ‘The Kashmir Files’, many people going against the film took to Twitter with a request that the makers of the film should donate all the money from its success for the education of the kids coming from Kashmiri Pandit families and help build houses for them in Kashmir.
Some asked the makers to at least give 50 percent of the profit from the film for the welfare of the Kashmiri Pandits. If they failed to contribute, it would be assumed that they had produced the movie only for their welfare, they believed.
Netizens react
Seeing all this happening, netizens claim that the banter is all about jealousy. One Twitter user wrote, “It is very sad that some people can see only the income of the #KashmirFiles. They can’t think otherwise. Jealousy, greed for other people’s hard-earned money, etc. are making them mad and restless. Pl have some self-respect.”
Another Twitterati asked “There were more than thousands of movies based on the true incident does it mean the moviemakers are supposed to transfer the money to the real character or the other? How do these thoughts come?”
Another one pointed out that major films that were based on true events such as Gangubai Kathiwadi, Chameli, Chhapaak, never claimed of donating any amount to the real-life victim. So why should the Kashmir Files do the same?
Kareena Kapoor earned crores from Chameli. She gave ZERO ₹ for the upliftment of Prostitutions
Sanjay Bhansali earned crores from #GangubaiKathiwadi. He gave ZERO ₹ to women of Redlight area
Yes, Vivek Agnihotri MUST gave all his earnings to Kashmiri Hindus.#TheKashmirFiles

Let #SanjayLeelaBhansali donate his earnings to women from red light areas, #AdityaChopra to the struggling akhadas & to women’s hockey, #FarhanAkhtar to Indian athletes. And then we’ll talk about @vivekagnihotri donating to #KashmiriPandits #TheKashmirFiles #VivekAgnihotri
