Shankar Nag’s Dream Come True: Nandi Hills Ropeway Project Worth 90 Crore Approved

On Friday, the Karnataka State government gave its approval to the ropeway project at Nandi hills worth Rs 93.40 crore under a public private participation (PPP) model. But what’s the idea like?

Nandi Hills is one of the most ideal getaways for the people of Bengaluru due to both its proximity and beauty. The ropeway will be 2.93 kilometers long, will have as many as 18 towers and each round trip on the ropeway will take approximately 28 minutes in duration. Also, 50 cabins have been approved by the cabinet, each accommodating a total of 10 passengers, for the ropeway project.

As Nandi Hills is located in the prime of the region of Chikkaballapur, it will help in boosting the development of the region also contribute to the economic growth. But according to a forest department officer, the Nandi hills forest in Karnataka is home to leopards and sloth bears among other animals. The forest department needs to ensure that these animals are not disturbed, the officer further added.

Other officials have also reported that the there will be increase in the density of vehicles in the area and that will cause more issues due to the same.

The project was the dream of the legendary Kannada actor Shankar Nag. It was he who proposed the same about 30 years ago. He wanted the ropeway built on the famous hill region of Bengaluru. The actor apparently had also envisioned Namma Metro for the city of Bengaluru.
