While the whole country was in the cricket mania and in T20 cricket world cup updates, there had been other achievements by our Indian athletes coming from the other parts of the world. A 13-year-old girl, Tajamul Islam created history by clinching the gold medal in World Kickboxing Championship. This is the second time that the girl from Kashmir has achieved the feat. The world championship was held at Cairo and Tajamul made sure that the Indian tricolor furls sky high by clinching a historic gold.
Tajamul Islam Scripts History
India’s Kickboxing champion from Bandipora, Tajamul Islam, created history by bagging a gold medal in the World Kickboxing Championship, 2021, held in Cairo, Egypt. The young champion wore the national flag on her shoulders after winning.

Before this, she had won the title in 2016. A resident of Bandipora district in Kashmir, Tajamul Islam has been practicing the sport of kickboxing since she was 6 years old. Islam also shared her achievement in a Twitter post on Thursday.
Breaking The Stereotypes
The young achiever is not only breaking stereotypes but also unearthing every opportunity to represent the country. Besides kickboxing, Islam also holds expertise in wushu and is also doing well in taekwondo. The star player started kickboxing at the age of five. She later joined a local academy, which trains children in martial arts. “I was walking near the stadium here when I saw many young boys and girls training. I saw them punching and all that and told my father that I wanted to join them, and he let me,” she had told a leading media agency in 2016.

She won a state-level championship held the same year and was recognised as the best fighter of Jammu and Kashmir. This earned her place in the 2015 National Kickboxing Championship at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium, winning gold in the sub-junior category. Coming from the state of J&K and participating in such competitions is itself a commendable spirit of this young lady, with minimal facilities and other hardships along the path Tajamul is thriving in her journey to become the best!
