K’taka: Photo Of Father Holding Umbrella As Daughter Attends Online Class Goes Viral

A picture of a father holding an umbrella over her daughter as she takes an online class on the roadside amid heavy rains has gone viral on social media. This photo was shot at Ballaka, a remote village in Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.

Connectivity an issue in rural areas

One of the many problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the struggles of a few students to take online classes. While those in the city have access to a good network, those in the rural areas struggle to attend an online class uninterrupted. This has forced many students and their parents to go outside of their homes and find a place where the signal becomes available.

The picture sees a girl taking one of her SSLC classes

Due to the monsoons, it has been raining heavily in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. On top of this, due to the lack of internet signal, students have no option but to venture outside. In the viral pic, the girl is seen attending her online SSLC class as her father holds an umbrella over her.

BSNL looking to improve the connectivity in the area

It is said that most of the students in the Guttigar, Ballaka and Kamila areas have to go outside their homes to find a good network. They depend on the BSNL network and also, due to frequent power cuts, the towers do not work.

Talking about this, GR Ravi, principal general manager of consumer fixed access in BSNL, said, “We’re trying to solve it by having Bharat AirFiber internet in areas which do not have the bandwidth.”

Well, it is high time that focus is given to these issues that will have a bearing on the future of the country.
