In a faux pas, Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, showed Jammu and Kashmir as separate from India. In a tweet predicting a Republican victory the US Presidential polls, Trump Jr posted a map which showed the world in red, except for India and China, which were depicted in blue, the colours representing the Democrats. He, however, showed Jammu and Kashmir and parts of northeastern states in red, the colour of the Republicans, thus depicting it differently than the rest of India.
“Okay, finally got around to making my electoral map prediction,” Trump Jr said in a tweet in which he shared the map. At the time of this report, the tweet had received over 17,200 tweets and over a lakh likes.
China, Sri Lanka in blue
The tweet comes at a time when India and China have been locked in a bitter battle along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). It may be noted that the US President has vehemently backed India on its stand against the Chinese aggression and offered to help in resolving the impasse with China.
“I know that China and India are having difficulty and very substantial difficulty. And hopefully, they will be able to work that out… If we can help, we would love to help,” he had said in September.

In the map tweeted by Trump Jr, China has also been depicted in blue. Trump has vehemently slammed Beijing for the COVID-19 outbreak. Often referring to COVID-19 as China virus, Trump in fact pulled out of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and stopped the funding of the UN body alleging that the global health watchdog colluded with China in delaying the announcement of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. Interestingly, Pakistan, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh are all shown in red while Sri Lanka is depicted in blue.
