The recent internal reshuffle within the ranks of the BJP had seen Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya was appointed to lead the party’s youth wing. On Monday, he took charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in the presence of Poonam Mahajan. And as Surya took over the reigns, the BJYM paid tribute to the young leader with a series of photos tracing his journey.
“A karyakarta who started at grassroots, BJYM National President Tejasvi Surya has risen through ranks by dedication and hard work…in this series, we capture his journey,” read the initial tweet.
Born in a middle class family in Bengaluru in 1990, Surya, the BJYM writes, had become associated with the Ramakrishna Mission at an early age.

In 1999, when the Kargil War took place, Surya was just nine-years-old. This however did not deter him from trying to help those affected. A young Tejasvi Surya had made paintings and then then sold them to raise funds for the Army Welfare Fund.
The Twitter handle also shared a news clipping about the same.
His efforts to improve the lives of people did not end here. “Right out of school, Tejasvi Surya founded youth advocacy organization, Arise India. He actively worked for education of children of migrant labourers, supported economically weak girl children, bettering infrastructure in government schools and many more,” the BJYM tweets.

Over the years, the Bengaluru MP and youth leader has held down many other posts of significance. He had been the BJYM Karnataka General Secretary, organising many campaigns and protests. The BJYM also notes Surya’s role in strengthening the Vidyarthi Parishad in Bengaluru and Karnataka.
“As a lawyer, Tejasvi Surya fought for the rights of poor sugarcane farmers by successfully leading a legal team at the K’taka High Court,” the BJYM writes. In 2018, he had become the BJP’s Spokesperson and in-charge of its Digital Communications Team, playing a significant role during the Karnataka Assembly Elections. “He took up many legal battles for the party and its karyakartas,” the BJYM adds.

More recently, in 2019, Surya had been elected to the Parliament representing Bengaluru South and has taken up projects such as BEST (Bengaluru South Education and Social Transformation). As the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, he had led the response team in his constituency, operationalising a taskforce and the development of digital platforms to deliver essentials and more, the BJYM notes.
