‘Urbanization Important’, Says Kangana After Maha Govt Shifts Project To Save Aarey

Bollywood actress and activist Kangana Ranaut hit out at the people who were celebrating the Maharashtra government’s decision to shift the Metro sheds from the Aarey forests.

The Aarey forests where originally a metro shed was planned by the BJP government of Maharashtra had sparked protests by environmental activists in Mumbai. When the Shiv Sena came to power in Maharashtra, Aditya Thackeray had pledged that he would save the Aarey forests. After repeated protests and legal procedures, the government announced today that the metro shed will be shifted from Aarey. This was celebrated by environmental activists and actors like Shraddha Kapoor and Dia Mirza too. Shraddha Kapoor wrote,

“No Metro Car shed at Aarey! The Metro car shed will now be at Kanjurmarg. This is a huge win for all those who stood together to Save Aarey #SaveAarey”

Dia Mirza also took to Twitter to express her happiness over the move. She wrote,

“This is such good news! And a big win for people’s movement #AareyForest”

“First World Problems”

However, Kangana Ranaut hit back at the people celebrating the move as she said urbanization should not stop. She wrote,

“First world problems of a few fancy activists are not #Mumbaikars problems, last year I planted more than one lakh saplings, not cutting trees is good but stopping urbanization only to suit powerful and wealthy’s agendas are not the solution but part of the problem #Aarey #Metro”

In a video, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that the Aarey Metro car shed will now come at Kanjurmarg and not at Aarey. He also announced that there will be no cost incurred for the purpose. He said,

“Biodiversity in Aarey needs to be conserved and protected. Nowhere is there an 800-acre jungle in an urban setup. Mumbai has a natural forest cover.”
