The leader from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi has controversial statement in the ongoing fiasco over the next Congress president.
The former president of the party, Rahul Gandhi interevened at the meeting and questioned the timing of a letter signed by 20 top party leaders who were allegedly targeting the Gandhi leadership. The letter came after the interim President of the party, Sonia Gandhi, asked to be relieved from the post. Rahul Gandhi further accused the signatories of colluding with the BJP. The signatories include people like Kapil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prithviraj Chauhan, Vivek Tankha and Anand Sharma.
Taking to Twitter, Owaisi addressed a tweet to Ghulam Nabi Azad and called the incident as poetic justice. He wrote,
“Poetic Justice: @ghulamnazad GHULAM NABI sb u’d accused me of exactly this. Now you’re accused of the same. 45 years of ghulami for this? Now it’s proven that anyone opposing Janeudhari leadership will be branded B-team I hope Muslims now know the high cost of loyalty to Congress.”
‘Rahul Gandhi Never Said It’
When the statement of Rahul Gandhi came out, Ghulam Nabi Azad offered to quit the party over the serious allegation. Kapil Sibal too expressed his displeasure over the tweet. However, later the Congress clarified that Rahul Gandhi never said it. Kapil Sibal deleted the tweet and Ghulam Nabi Azad said,
“Rahul Gandhi never said it, neither in CWC or outside that this letter (to Sonia Gandhi about party leadership) was written in collusion with BJP.”
The party’s spokesperson issued a clarification and wrote,
“Rahul Gandhi hasn’t said a word of this nature nor alluded to it. Please don’t be misled by false media discourse or misinformation being spread. But yes, we all need to work together in fighting the draconian Modi rule rather than fighting and hurting each other and the Congress.”
Kapil Sibal later deleted his tweet and wrote,
“Was informed by Rahul Gandhi personally that he never said what was attributed to him . I therefore withdraw my tweet.”
