The Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament from Karnataka, Anant Kumar Hegde has once again erupted a controversy through his statements. This time, he has taken a dig at the employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
Over the course of the past year, there has been a debate over privatizing the telecom company after its poor functioning. While there is an opinion that the government has neglected the company, Anant Kumar Hegde blames it on the employees as he calls them traitors for not willing to work to develop the company that has a legacy.
Speaking at an even in Kumta region of Karnataka, Anant Kumar Hegde made these statements. He also said that 88,000 employees of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will be fired by the government soon as the company will be handed over to the private entity.
Not New To Controversies
The BJP leader is not a new customer for controversies. Earlier in February, he attacked Mahatma Gandhi and termed the struggle for freedom as a staged drama. He also said that he wonders how such people are called Mahatma. The twitter account of the leader was suspended by the micro-blogging site in April after which he accused the company of being “anti-India” and said that the company had “prejudiced intentions.” He had further written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Twitter and calling it digital colonization by the company.
Earlier this year, the central government had said that it will not go for selling the telecom companies like BSNL or MTNL but instead it is looking to revive both the companies in the near future. Both the companies are under huge financial stress as the salaries of employees have been delayed. The workers had later staged a protest for the same.
