Government Extends Work From Home For IT And BPO Companies Till December 31

With the number of cases in the country touching almost 40k every day, the Government of India has decided to extend Work from Home for IT and BPO companies until December 31st. Earlier, the government had extended the same date until July 31st.

Cases in the country on the rise

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country is increasing every day. With the lockdown failing to provide the desired impact, the government seems to have decided that living along with COVID could be the only way forward. While several other industries have already opened up, 85% of the IT employees were still working from home. Only those who were involved in critical functions were going to offices.

In March, the Government had set April 30th as the deadline for the Work from Home norms. However, with growing cases, the date had been extended until July 31st. The date has further been extended now, as per the latest developments.

Government extends the Work From Home norms till December 31

Communicating the decision, the Department of Telecommunications said “DoT has further extended the relaxations in the terms and conditions for other service providers up to December 31, 2020 to facilitate work from home in view of the ongoing concern due to COVID-19.

Although it has been a while since the WFH culture has settled in, with the deadline being extended till the end of the year, it needs to be seen as to how the tech-giants would cope up with the move.
