Who Is Vikas Dubey? – The Man Behind The Killing Of 8 UP Police Officers

Vikas Dubey, the criminal who has over 60 cases against him and the one who killed eight police officers in Kanpur, is also known to have murdered a minister in the Rajnath Singh led government in UP.

The incident dates back to 2001 when Vikas Dubey barged into a police station and shot at Santosh Shukla who was then a minister in the UP government led by the current defense minister Rajnath Singh. A year prior to that, in 2000, Vikas Dubey was accused of Killing Siddeshwar Pandey, the assistant manager at Tarachand Inter College. In the same year, he conspired and killed Rambabu Yadav in Kanpur while he was still in Jail.

In 2004, he was involved in the murder of cable businessman Dinesh Dubey and in 2018 he planned a deadly attack on his own cousin Anurag. During this time, he was in prison and carried out the entire operation from prison. Apart from the murders, Vikas Dubey was involved in nabbing huge lands through illegal occupation. In and around 2002, Vikas Dubey had an unflinching influence in Kanpur city, Bilhaur, Shivrajpur, Rinyan, and Choubepur areas.

Choubepur is the same area where the encounter took place late on Thursday night which killed 8 police officers in Uttar Pradesh.

The Encounter

At least 8 police officers of Uttar Pradesh Police were killed in an encounter with the criminals in Kanpur on Friday. A superintendent of police was also killed in the incident.

The encounter took place in Dikru village which comes under Chaubeypur police station. It took place at midnight on Thursday.

The team had approached the hideout place of the criminal and just as they were about to arrest him, a chunk of bullets came towards them from a rooftop which killed the Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra and three other subinspectors and four constables. As per the officials, the criminals might have got beforehand information about the raid.

Vikas Dubey and his close aides had put up a huge roadblock that prevented police to approach their hideout. When the police team was unaware of what was happening, the criminals fired at them from a building rooftop. As soon as the information about the incident came in, the additional District General and the Inspector General of Kanpur along with the senior Superintendent of Kanpur rushed to the spot. The forensic team too came in and began the investigation.
