Fans Demand Bharat Ratna For Sonu Sood And Akshay Kumar For Their Contribution During COVID-19

After Media Personality Suhel Seth demanded a Bharat Ratna award for PV Narasimhamha Rao, Bharat Ratna trended on Twitter as Netizens demanded the award to be given to Sonu Sood and Akshay Kumar for their contributions.

Bharat Ratna is regarded as the highest civilian award in the country. The recipients in the past have all been influential in their respective work. On Sunday, fans on Twitter demanded the government to recognize the selfless work of Sonu Sood and Akshay Kumar during the COVID-19 pandemic and award them the highest civilian award.

During the magnanimous migrant crisis in the first and second phases of the lockdown, Sonu Sood emerged as a hero for the stranded migrants as he ensured that most of them reach their home safe and in time. Sonu has also arranged flights for many from one part of the country to another. Akshay Kumar to have contributed to the relief work as a donation to the PM Cares Fund. Fans recalled their work and demanded the government to respect them with the Bharat Ratna Award.

Criticism On The Other Side

However, there was a flip side too. The constant fuel hike around the country has enraged the citizens with the financial crisis already around. A section of people on social media was quick to recall the tweets of celebrities who had criticized the UPA government during the fuel hike and are silent now. Among them were Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, and Akshay Kumar. Their tweets of that time have gone viral now.

Among those who reminded them about their silence was Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad who called out the hypocrisy of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and BJP Leader Smriti Irani.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in the country have skyrocketed. The price is the National Capital was hiked to Rs. 80.13 per liter of petrol from the previous day price of Rs. 79.92. The diesel rate too was increased from Rs. 80.02 to Rs. 80.19. In Mumbai, petrol is priced at Rs. 86.91 and diesel at Rs. 78.51. This is the 20th straight hike in 20 consecutive days. The cumulative increase from June 7 is around Rs. 8.87 for petrol and Rs. 10.8 for diesel. The diesel rate is at an all-time high.
