Reports: Karnataka is All Set And Hopeful To Reopen Malls, Theaters And Hotels After May 31

The Government of Karnataka has announced that it is in favor of reopening malls, theaters, and hotels in the state after the conclusion of Lockdown 4.0 on May 31st. However, the decision will be based on clearance from the Central Government.

Lockdown 4.0 to conclude on May 31

On May 31st, the fourth phase of the lockdown will conclude across the country. While the majority of restrictions were eased for this phase, it needs to be seen if the Centre will decide to extend the lockdown.

BSY speaks on the matter

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa spoke on the issue. He said: “I’ve written to the Centre seeking permission to open hotels, restaurants, and malls. I’m awaiting their reply. I am hopeful that we will get permission.”

Citing the reason for the move, the BJP leader said that since vehicular movement in the state has returned close to normalcy, there will be a necessity of lodges and hotels at this point. He further added: “I have explained the same in the letter. Ultimately, the Centre will take a call.”

60% of shops on Brigade Road resume operations

As the malls and theaters wait for the guidelines from the government, standalone shops across the city, including on Brigade Road, have opened their shutters.

60% of the shops on Brigade Road, including branded outlets such as Levi’s and Lifestyle have opened for customers. However, a total of 45 stores in the happening street are located inside malls, and hence, they are yet to open.

Note: Karnataka Government has not made any decision in this regard and is waiting for centre’s permission.
