United States President, in a press-conference arranged at the White House, announced that Churches and other houses of worship as ‘essential’ and called for reopening of these places across the country.
Trump pushing for the country to reopen
Despite being one of the worst-hit countries, Donald Trump has been pushing for the country to reopen to address the faltering economy. With the elections around, Trump is trying to reveres the free fall in economy at the earliest. Meanwhile, the President has also tried to attend the concerns of White evangelical Christians, a community who are loyal supporters to Trump.
Trump considers Churches as ‘essential’
Trump has called for the places of worship to reopen across the country, and said that he would ‘override’ the governors who do not support the decision. He said:”Governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend.”
He added: “Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential but not churches. It’s not right. So I’m correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential. These are places that hold our society together and keep our people united.”
Following the announcement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a set of guidelines for communities of faith on how to safely reopen, including the recommendations on limiting the size of gatherings and even considering conduction of services outdoors or in large, well-ventilated areas.
Across the country, a basic rule of limiting gatherings to 10 people and each person staying 6 feet apart is being followed.
