On May 1st, the Government of Karnataka released the list of ‘Red Zones’ in the capital city of Bengaluru. This was a follow up to the classification that had been announced by the Central Government yesterday.
Lockdown Extended
Yesterday, through a notification, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the lockdown in the country would be extended by two more weeks until May 17th. The second phase of the lockdown is due to end on May 3rd.
Also, yesterday, the Union Health Ministry announced the classification of the entire country into Red, Orange, and Green Zones. All the relaxations and the further steps regarding the curb of the outbreak would be based on this zonal classification.
Bengaluru identified as ‘Red Zone’
In Karnataka, 3 Red Zones had been identified. Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Mysuru are three districts demarcated as ‘Red Zone’ in the state.
Following Bengaluru’s inclusion in the ‘Red Zone’, the State Government further classified the city based on corporation wards into Red, Green, and Orange Zones. While wards, where at least one case has been reported in the last 14 days, fall into the red zone, the wards where no cases have been reported in the last 28 days fall in the green zone. If any ward has reported at least one case in the last 15-28 days, they fall into the orange zone.
Based on this classification, thirteen wards fall into the red zone. They are: Hongasandra (with 28 cases), Padarayanapura (26), Jagajivanram Nagar (5), Deepanjali Nagar (3), Bapuji Nagar (3), Chamarajpet (2), Vasanth Nagar (2) and Hampi Nagar (2).
