As per the latest reports today, a few members who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Conference have donated plasma after recovering from the COVID-19 infection.
Tablighi Jamaat Conference
Held in the latter part of March, the Tablighi Jammat Conference held in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi has been one of the major sources of COVID-19 outbreak in the country. While many from across the country had attended the conference, there were a few foreign attendees too. A few of them, after the conference, traveled to different parts of the country, which led to the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Plasma Therapy
Convalescent Plasma Therapy is touted to be a potential solution for COVID-19. The method has already provided encouraging results in different parts of the world.
In this technique, plasma from a COVID-19 recovered patient is extracted and the same is transfused to a patient who is suffering from the contraction. It is said that, in a recovered patient’s plasma, antibodies are present which have already fought the virus. So, the same antibodies-containing plasma is used to fight the virus in patients still suffering from the infection.
The procedure has been approved for clinical trials in India, while in some states, the Government has also given permission for the implementation of the procedure. Hence, in the last few days, various authorities have been urging COVID-19 recovered patients to come forward and donate plasma.
