Mumbai Airport Gears Up To Resume Services; Strict Operating Procedures In Place

In the wake of the COVID-19 issue across the country, Mumbai Airport has decided to restart operations. GCK MIAL, which manages the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has put together safety measures to curb the outbreak of the virus. 

Strict Operating Procedures from hereon

The management has formulated a few operating procedures, which have been modeled to curb the further outbreak of the virus. The initiatives include social distancing, stringent thermal screening, positioning temporary quarantine centers, and also sanitization and disinfection of the airport to ensure the safety and well-being of the passengers.

GVK MIAL, in a statement, said: “To enable safety precautions at the airport, CSMIA plans to maintain social distancing through distinctive markings at both the terminals, maintaining 1.5 meters distance between each passenger.”

Further measures planned by the authorities

Special markings would be spread across the entire, from the entry-gates to the check-in kiosks, including at the food courts as well. Seating arrangements at the food courts and the terminal building have been redesigned such that adequate social-distancing is maintained. Further, temporary quarantine centers have been set up, in case, any passenger shows symptoms of the virus during the screening.

At every checkpoint in the airport, personnel would be available for assistance and also ensuring that hand-sanitizers are used frequently. The airport will also make strict instructions which the commuters will have to follow with respect to the usage of gloves and masks. Contactless cash-payments is another aspect that will be encouraged by the authorities.
