Good News: Kerala Couple, Aged 93 And 88, Walk Out Of The Hospital, After Braving The Coronavirus

In a piece of positive news to several COVID-19 patients across India, the country’s oldest patients, a couple aged 93 and 88 from Kerala, has been cured of the infection and been discharged from the hospital.

The couple tested positive to COVID-19 on March 8th

The aged couple contracted the deadly virus from their son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, who had returned from Italy last month. Based on the direction of Kerala’s health minister KK Shailaja, the couple was shifted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) on March 9th.

A team of seven doctors and 40 medical staff were involved in treating the couple of the infection. One of the staff nurses, who looked after these two also tested positive for COVID-19.

The couple had old-age related health issues

Apart from being placed in the high-risk category, the couple had old-age health problems too. It is reported that they had diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac issues.

Initially placed in the VIP room of the hospital, the couple struggled as they were in different rooms. However, they were later shifted to the transplant ICU where they could see each other. The 93-year-old did not respond well to the treatment, as he suffered a cardiac arrest during the treatment. He was placed on a ventilator following this.

The couple walked out of the hospital on Friday

On Friday, the couple braved the infection and walked out of the hospital, after testing negative for COVID-19. Health Minister KK Shailaja appreciated the efforts of the doctors, who brought laurels to the state after curing the critically ill patients.
