Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has notified today that around 9000 members of Tablighi Jamaat and their primary contacts have been quarantined in the country.
Hotspot for COVID-19 Outbreak in India
The Tablighi Jamaat Religious Conference held at the Nizamuddin Area in South Delhi has given a tough obstacle for the Central and various State Governments to overcome, in the race to make India COVID-19 free at the earliest.
Many people from across the country had attended the conference, leading to a massive search for them in the last few days, after a few attendees started displaying symptoms of the Coronavirus.
9000 members and their primary contacts isolated
Punya Salila Srivastava, a Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry revealed the info in today’s press briefing. She said that 1804 of the 2000 Tablighi Jamaat members in Delhi have been transferred to isolation centers, while 344 symptomatic individuals have been admitted to the hospitals.
Along with the members, the primary contacts of these individuals have also been placed in quarantine centers.
A massive effort by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)
Punya Salila Srivatsava added that this was possible due to a “massive effort” by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). She hailed the endeavor undertaken by MHA to coordinate with the State Governments to trace the Tablighi Jamaat conference attendees.
Indeed, this is a terrific achievement considering a few members across the country had failed to behave responsibly with the concerned officials.
