Infosys Employee Arrested Over ‘Spread-The-Virus’ Post, Company Terminates Him

According to the reports, the Bengaluru Police on Friday arrested an Infosys employee for a shocking social media post urging people to “go out and sneeze” and spread the deadly disease.

Sandeep Patil, the joint commissioner of the City Crime Branch, Bengaluru, confirmed that Mohammad was detained. “His name is Mujeeb and he works in Infosys,” said Patil. “A case has been registered.”

“Let’s join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus,” Mujeeb Mohammad wrote on Facebook.

Patil said the man has been a resident of Bengaluru for around 25 years. He was booked under Section 505 (a making statement which causes alarm or fear in public, and also inciting & provokes others) of the Indian Penal Code.

Infosys’s action

Meanwhile, Infosys on Friday said it has stopped the services of the employee who had made an “inappropriate post” on social media related to the coronavirus outbreak.

Infosys, in a tweet from its official handle, said the social media post by the employee is against its code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing.

“Infosys has completed its investigation on the social media post by one of its employees, and we believe that this is not a case of mistaken identity,” it noted.

The Bengaluru-based company further said the company has a “zero-tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, dismissed the services of the employee”.

“The social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee,” the statement added.
