The 65-year-old, with a mask, was seen trying to follow the rule of social distance to avoid getting infected with the novel coronavirus. Earlier, she had written to Chief Ministers of 18 states requesting them to provide basic comforts such as shelter, food and medical support to the workers of West Bengal stranded in their states due to the lockdown.
Mamata also undertook a tour of hospitals, a night shelter, and wholesale and retail markets as part of her awareness drive. However, she has failed to follow the lockdown norms.
Social Distancing
Throughout her awareness campaign, she has been followed by a team of administration and police officers, besides a media filming her excursions. Not just that, people gathered in groups to see their chief minister. During times, when social distancing plays an important role, WB’s Chief minister’s move is being criticized by a few people on social media.
Social distancing for Covid-19 calls to maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter between people at all times. The disease is widely known to be able to transmit through droplets released when one sneezes and coughs, and this distance is meant to ensure people around a possible patient avoid any direct risk.
According to ANI, five more positive COVID-19 cases have been reported from West Bengal on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 15. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had reported a total of 724 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India.
