As for the latest update, Namma Metro will restrict people aged above 60 years and children below 10 from traveling as officials stepped up the measures to check the spread of Coronavirus among its riders with several measures. The officials have also directed to limit the number of people on a train to 150.
Namma Metro restrictions
In the announcement published on Friday, the BMRCL has asked citizens to use the metro services only if necessary. Security personnel may not check identity cards to enforce this restriction. “We will, however, not allow elderly people or young children to use the metro,” said a BMRCL official.
Authorities also said that the number of the traveling public in each metro stations and trains will also be restricted.
“In the trains, capacity is limited to 150 people as alternate seats have to be left vacant and no standing passengers are allowed. Trains may not stop at stations which may be having crowds that are less than the expected distance of 1 meter between passengers,” B L Yashavanth Chavan, chief public relations officer, said in a release.
According to the sources, the officials also said it will begin casual thermal scranning at metro stations and those with found fever and any other symptom related to Coronavirus will be transferred for medical tests and quarantining.
“In case anyone has a fever or is observed to have any symptoms of COVID-19, he or she will be referred to the State authorities for medical tests and quarantine. Any passenger who has symptoms similar to those infected by COVID-19 are strictly advised to avoid travel by Namma Metro or any other modes of public transport,” read the advisory.
Chief PRO of BMRCL B.L. Yeshwanth Chavan said, “The advisory has been brought out in the interest of the public. Metro and subway systems all over the world are following the same measures to contain the spread. Security personnel at the metro stations have been asked to guide passengers and ensure that they follow the rules.”
Ola shared rides on hold
According to a report published by Deccan Herald, Cab aggregators Ola have suspended all its ride-sharing services in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID- 19 until further notice. Meanwhile, Uber called upon its riders to observe ‘Janata Curfew’ but did not speak about Uber Pool.
An Uber spokesperson reported, “In line with the government’s advisory, we urge riders to observe the ‘Janata Curfew’” adding there will be no changes in its services.
Speaking to the media an Ola spokesperson stated that steps have been taken to ensure the highest levels of hygiene are maintained in the vehicles on the platform.
“The temporary suspension of Ola Share services is an attempt to encourage social distancing,” it said, adding that the platform will continue essential travel services across India.
