Bengaluru Coronavirus: City Bars To Remain Closed, Restaurants To Offer Only Take Out Services

Amid Coronavirus concern, Restaurants are asked to remain closed for dine-in services in Bengaluru. However, various food outlets have decided to keep the kitchens active as it will open for orders via food delivery apps.

Hotels and restaurants to remain close 

On Friday, the Karnataka government led by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had issued an advisory to all hotels and restaurants in the city to close dine-in facilities starting Sunday till March 31. Instead, food outlets can operate their kitchens and prepare food that can be made available for takeaway services. Previously, restaurants were allowed to remain open keeping 1m distance between tables. Moreover, the Chief Minister also said that bars and pubs will be shut from Saturday onwards till March 31.

Days ago, the Health Department had also issued a warning for the people, ordering them to avoid going to restaurants to eat and rather switch to getting food delivered to their homes.

“It is also advised to avoid restaurants and sit-in eateries to limit public contact. Instead, the food may be obtained from the eateries through suppliers like Zomoto, Swiggy, Freshmenu, etc. through online booking,” the Health Department’s advisory reads.

Delivery apps such as Zomato has started no contact delivery, where a person will leave food packets at the gate or reception.

Social distance

The public is advised to maintain social distancing and have been asked to avoid gathering in public places as they are likely to spread the infection to others.

The state government has extended the partial lockdown till March 31. Night clubs, pubs, theatres, malls, and gyms are shut till this date. Moreover, popular film shoots have been stalled amid Coronavirus outbreak.

Besides, political and other public gatherings have also been forbidden. Weddings are limited to 150 guests only. In the wake of the announcement of the Janata Curfew on Sunday, Cafe Coffee Day said that its outlets would be shut on March 22 as well.
